BioMorphic Entity / COSPLAY

about
Cosplay is a termed coined by avid manga/anime/games fans in Japan. It's short for 'costume play'. The event is actually a popularised dressing-up hobby, where people dress as characters they like and get together to have fun. The fun part of the whole event is to try to take as many pictures of other cosplayers in their fine costumes, posing sometimes ridiculously for pictures and getting to meet other people who have this same interest.

in Singapore
The very first major cosplay event took place in the year 2000, organised by MAC and sponsored by AXN-asia. The turn out was quite good at the exhibition hall in Suntec City. Since then, cosplays are more frequently held in June and December, as that is when the school holidays are (most cosplayers are students). Popular places for cosplayers to congregate includes the Botanic Gardens, Orchard/Sommerset area, Suntec City. At other times when not cosplaying, they can probably be found at popular youth hang-outs like Graffiti Cafe in Heeren.

me
My interest in anime at that time, especially Rurouni Kenshin, got me into cosplay, because I was part of a ML known as RKFC... and cosplay was pretty much hyped up. Happened to finish my O-Levels at that time so I was quite free to go for it, with my cousin who came to Singapore for a visit. =P Poor chap - I dressed him up as Gao Ban.

Anyway, after that, I participated one (or was it two?) cosplay only for RKFCians. My other friends who are quite into anime and are on the Miyuki ML or Sgcosplay ML then kept me updated on other cosplays.

Cosplay pretty much evolved and spread out to other genres - like Jrock, Original, Faerie, Movies/Books (ie LotR and StarWars). Original cosplays are where you go as a character you yourself design. =) That interesting or what?

Am rambling much. Lol. Now my interest for anime has cooled off a lot and cosplay.. well, I would go if I had the time... and maybe a costume. Not quite an avid cosplayer, relatively. ^^
