BioMorphic Entity / COSTUMES
Costumes are the essentials of any cosplay. I used to hardly make my own costumes, scrounging places for clothes that closely resembles those of the character I'm playing. The best is still to get it tailored, either by a professional, or DIY.
Places that you can go to purchase stuff for your cosplay needs...
Outram Park > People's Park
Cloth! Buttons! Hooks! Wigs! Hair accessories! Walk around the second and third floors to find all these stuff. Reasonably priced too~ A must-go if you want to keep your budget low.
Tampines/ Dhoby Ghaut's Plaza Singapura> Spotlight
Have lots of art stuff you might need for weapons and other items. May be a bit on the expensive side, depending on what you're purchasing there.
Farrer Park > Mustafa
A whole lot of stuff sold there. Can get a decent price for clothes there.
Bras Basah > Art Friend
Somewhat like Spotlight, but the prices are relatively cheaper. Sells clay, wood blocks and stuff.
My favourite costumes are those that are made out of sweat and blood with hands full of pinpricks. Kidding. Doesn't really sound that bad if you have everything planned about at least one and a half month away from the event.
Outfit: Purchased tacky pink dress that does not look like dress, but heck, it's the only pink thing I can find. Jacket is also purchased at the same store.
Weapon: A rod made of pipes taken from friend's house. Can be separated to two pieces/shortened/extended. Bought stationery to make the grip and cover up the pole.
Cost: Possibly about SGD50. Can't really remember. Dress and jacket about SGD40 I think. Stationery not v expensive.
Time taken: One week.
Outfit: Made this with the kind help of a group member's mother. Bought cloth somewhere in Yishun - cream coloured and green. Armour made out of paper mache with wire structuring, spray-painted. Headgear - a mirror, headband, telephone wires (yeah~ telephone wires. XD)
Cost: Cloth - possibly SGD60? (can't remember) Headgear - Less than SGD10. Think I might have spent up to about SGD100.
Time taken: Roughly 2 months.
Outfit: Found jacket in cupboard. Inner black shirt reused from GaoBan (XD). Shorts bought at shop. Shades - extra unrequired accessory =P. Knee-length socks from House of Socks (I think).
Cost: Last minute decision to cosplay, hence picked easily cosplayed character, so cost is quite low. Definitely spent less than SGD50.
Time taken: 2 weeks?
Outfit: White blouse (cupboard), grey sleeveless (mum's cupboard XD), cloak (friend's extra), grey skirt (school uniform O_o). Just realised that the brown pair of shoes I wore is also the pair I've been wearing to the previous three mentioned events. Heh.
Weapon: Wand made out of chopstick. Looks authentic! Handle made out of origami paper. *lol*
Cost: SGD 0! XP
Time taken: One day!
Outfit: Yellow waterproof cloth 'material', black glossy cloth, and white ribbon for top. Thick dark blue cloth for 'pants'. Sewn together with some help from Brudda Shuui (cosplaying Sora). Gloves from Brudda's brother (XD), modified by me. Wristband made from leftover black cloth. Shoes - had no time to make them, so wore sports shoes. And a white wig!
Cost: Has got to be the most expensive! Wig was SGD35 (from People's Park), cloth amounted to SGD70, and add up the other smaller miscellanies like those shiny buttons.
Time taken: About 2 months.
Outfit: White blouse from uniform shop, skirt and tie blue-green plaits material from Spotlight and done by Kat, who did an amazing job on the skirt pleats with help from her mother.
Cost: Blouse cost $10, skirt and tie material about $10 each too, I think.
Time taken: About 2 weeks.
Outfit: Black top reused from Yohko ^^;, black shorts from U2, leather gloves (borrowed), cut up and stitched socks and black cloth from Homeyardage (Sydney), which is originally for another costume.
Cost: Shorts - approx $19, socks $2.50, total spent approx. $25?
Time taken: 1 day ^^; I hadn't had much time, to work much on the costume.
